① was formed in New York in 1964, centered around guitarist Danny Kalb. In 1965, Al Cooper (who would later form BS&T) joined, and in 1967 the original members suspended activities and temporarily disbanded. They often reunited in the 1970s. Their signature song, "I CAN'T KEEP FROM CRYING SOMETIMES," was featured by Blues Creation and G-Cups at the dawn of Japanese rock in the late 1960s, and became a representative song of blues rock as a long improvisation number. This CD also includes early studio tracks, including a scorching version of "I'm Can't Keep From Crying" with Al Cooper on acoustic piano. CD-1 also includes unreleased tracks ⑤⑥⑪⑬ and ⑩⑯, a total of six tracks that were not officially released, and the remastered sound is completely different from the sound quality you hear on the records. This is an anthology of the eight years from 1964 to 1972 when they called themselves the "Blues Project".
Initial members: Vo/Tommy Flanders, G/Vo/Danny Kalb, G/Vo/Steve Katz, B/Flute/Andy Cullberg, Key/Vo/Al Cooper, Dr/Roy Bloomfield, etc.
② is a blues band led by Paul Butterfield, which included Mike Bloomfield, one of the three great guitarists (?), and was formed in 1963. It was active until the 1970s, despite many member changes as mentioned above. After Bloomfield left the band, Elvin Bishop emerged as a guitarist and the band evolved with the introduction of a bone section. Their second album, which includes the long song "EAST WEST," had a significant influence on the blues rock boom (?) during the GS slump of the late 1960s, and it is believed that the term "lager rock" was born from this song. The band was active until 1972 and then disbanded, but Paul Butterfield continued to work as "Better Days." This CD is an anthology of songs evenly selected from the seven albums (including live albums) released during the US Elektra Records era from 1964 to 1971.
Initial members: Vo/Key/Herb/Paul Butterfield G/Mike Bloomfield, G/Elvin Bishop, B/Jerome Arnold, Key/Mark Naftalin, Dr/Sam Lay
